Picnics are a favorite summer activity, and Vancouver has hundreds of gorgeous spots where you may enjoy a picnic with your family and friends, spend time with your special someone, celebrate a birthday or graduation, or even tie the knot. The list goes on and on. They are so versatile that you may have them at any time of day, and in my opinion, nothing beats ending a picnic by watching the sunset.

5 beautiful places where you can have a picnic and enjoy the sunset near Vancouver, BC:

Stanley Park:

Stanley Park is one of the most popular places in Vancouver for picnics. It offers vast green areas and beautiful ocean views. It's perfect for enjoying a picnic at sunset.

Lynn Canyon Park:

Located in North Vancouver, Lynn Canyon Park offers beautiful views, including a canyon and a suspension bridge. You can find designated picnic areas where you can enjoy the natural surroundings while watching the sunset.

Ambleside Park:

Situated in West Vancouver, Ambleside Park features beautiful beaches and waterfront picnic areas. It's a lovely spot to enjoy a sunset picnic and relax by the sea.

Lighthouse Park:

Another highlight in West Vancouver is Lighthouse Park. Here, you'll find scenic trails, cliffs, and a historic lighthouse. There are designated picnic areas where you can enjoy a meal while admiring the stunning sunset.

Quarry Rock:

If you enjoy hiking, Quarry Rock in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, is an excellent choice. After a moderate hike, you'll reach a platform with panoramic ocean views. It's a perfect spot to enjoy a sunset picnic while taking in the breathtaking views.

Enjoying a picnic can range from something simple to something elegant. I really like bringing my picnic mat, some fruit, and drinks like lemonade to stay refreshed. And you can always put together a cheese board, which is always a hit on any occasion.

Suggestions for a great picnic in Vancouver area:

  • Picnic Blanket that are ideal for use on grass, beach sand, and even better if they're waterproof.

  • Food: Prepare a variety of finger foods that are easy to eat and transport. Some ideas include sandwiches, wraps, fresh fruits, veggie sticks with dip, cheese and crackers, salads, and mini quiches.

  • Drinks: Pack refreshing beverages such as water, homemade lemonade, iced tea, or sparkling fruit juices. Don't forget to bring a cooler or insulated bag to keep them cool. I leave you our post with delicious options for refreshing Summer Drinks.

  • Snacks: Include some delicious snacks like chips, pretzels, popcorn, or trail mix to munch on throughout the picnic.

  • Desserts: Treat yourself to sweet treats like cookies, brownies, cupcakes, or fruit salads. They add a touch of indulgence to the picnic experience.

  • Utensils and Plates: Bring disposable plates, cups, napkins, and utensils for easy cleanup. Alternatively, you can opt for reusable picnicware if you prefer a more eco-friendly approach.

  • Picnic Basket: Pack all your food, drinks, and supplies in a spacious and sturdy picnic basket or cooler. Make sure it has compartments or zippered sections to keep things organized. Even you can find options that include reusable picnicware and a blanket.

  • Entertainment: Bring along some outdoor games or activities to enjoy during the picnic, such as a frisbee, football, or a deck of cards. They can add a fun element to the gathering.

  • Sun Protection: Don't forget essentials like sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and insect repellent to protect yourself from the sun and bugs.

  • Music: Create a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere by bringing a portable Bluetooth speaker and playing some of your favorite tunes. *Make sure to check out the place you are going before bringing music. There are places where Bluetooth speakers are not allowed*

  • Comfortable Seating: Consider bringing portable chairs or cushions for additional comfort, especially if the picnic area doesn't provide seating options.

Remember to check the weather forecast and pack accordingly. Enjoy your picnic!
